Ayia Napa has a reputation as a nightlife town, but by day — and especially with a car — it’s one of the best coastal day trips on the island, combining dramatic cliff scenery, sea caves and some of the clearest water in Cyprus.
Getting there
From Larnaca, it’s around 40–45 minutes via the A3 motorway. From Limassol, budget closer to 1 hour 15 minutes via the A1/A2/A3. The roads are motorway-standard for almost the entire drive, making this an easy trip even if you’re not confident on Cyprus’s smaller rural roads yet.
A suggested route for the day
1. Ayia Napa Sea Caves
Start here before the day heats up. A network of dramatic limestone caves and cliffs along the coast just west of town, with clear water for a swim if you’re up for it — informal parking is available along the coast road.
2. Cape Greco National Forest Park
A short drive further east, Cape Greco is a protected headland with coastal walking trails, sea arches, and some of the best viewpoints on the island. The park has proper car parks and marked trails, so it’s an easy stop even with young kids.
3. Konnos Bay
Tucked just below Cape Greco, this sheltered, pine-backed cove is one of the calmest and clearest swimming spots on the east coast — a good lunch-and-swim stop before continuing.
4. Ayia Napa Monastery
Right in the centre of town, this 16th-century monastery is a quiet, shaded contrast to the beach bars nearby and takes only about 20 minutes to walk through.
5. Nissi Beach
Finish the day here if you want the classic Cyprus postcard view — just note it’s the busiest beach on this route in peak summer, so a late afternoon visit is often more relaxed than midday.
Parking and timing tips
- Cape Greco and the sea caves have free parking areas; central Ayia Napa itself uses paid parking near the harbour and square in peak season.
- Visiting sea caves and Cape Greco in the morning avoids both the heat and the tour bus crowds that arrive by midday.
- The whole loop — caves, Cape Greco, Konnos, monastery, Nissi Beach — is comfortably doable in a single day, but trim it to three stops if you’d rather move slowly.
